Rally Success! NYS Attorney General Agrees to Meet with Ms. Ward & O4O Next Week

More than 30 people braved the rains on Wednesday afternoon in support of O4O and Mary Lee Ward at the Brooklyn office of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. The AG was recently removed from a high-level panel investigating mortgage fraud among major banks.  Ms. Ward and O4O representatives showed their support and to encouraged him to investigate the suspicious conditions around her mortgage and foreclosure.   However, shortly before the rally, the AG’s office contacted O4O and agreed to meet with the group next Tuesday, September 13 — success!!

The rally continued for about thirty minutes, and in front of a plaque commemorating the work of civil rights fighter Shirley Chisholm, Ms. Ward, O4O members, and other speakers brought home this message: the struggle for housing is a human rights issue, banks must be held accountable to the people who bailed them out, and the office of the Attorney General, as representative of the people, should not back down in the investigation of the banks’ questionable practices. In the words of Ms. Ward, “Mister Eric should behave like a man, not a mouse,” and justice will not be done until the institutions that created situations like hers are held accountable for their actions.

Tuesday’s meeting comes off the heels of our successful rally yesterday and our March for Mary! last week.  Check out some photos from the march below:
